Privacy Policy
The short version: refrigerDATE has no accounts, no analytics, no ads, and no tracking. Your item list lives on your iPhone and your Apple Watch — and nowhere else.
Nothing. refrigerDATE does not collect, store, or transmit any personal information. There is no sign-up, no user account, no analytics SDK, and no advertising. We never see your name, your email, your location, or what's in your fridge.
Every item you scan or enter — product names, barcodes, expiration and purchase dates, locations, and photos you attach — is stored locally on your device. If you use the Apple Watch app, your list is mirrored to your watch over Apple's device-to-device connection. Deleting the app deletes this data.
When you scan a barcode, the app sends only the barcode number to Open Food Facts, a free, community-maintained food database, to fetch the product's name. The request is anonymous — it contains nothing that identifies you or your device beyond a standard app identifier, and we don't operate any server of our own. Open Food Facts' own privacy policy is available on their site.
Camera — to scan barcodes and printed expiration dates. Images are processed live on your device and are not saved unless you choose to attach a photo to an item.
Microphone & Speech Recognition — only when you hold the mic to say a date. Dictation is handled by Apple's speech recognition, which may process audio on Apple's servers under Apple's privacy terms.
Calendars — only if you use "Add to iOS Calendar" or turn on automatic calendar sync. The app writes expiration events to your calendar; it never reads or shares your existing events.
Notifications — expiration reminders are scheduled locally on your device. Nothing is sent from a server.
Every permission is optional — decline any of them and the rest of the app keeps working.
We don't sell data. We don't share data. We don't profile you. We don't use third-party analytics, advertising networks, or tracking of any kind. The app makes exactly one type of network request: the anonymous barcode lookup described above.
refrigerDATE is suitable for all ages and collects no information from anyone, children included.
If this policy ever changes, we'll update this page and the date below. Questions? Email jaybee@refrigerdate.com.
